Term: HOUR

Definition:
The Oracle PL/SQL term HOUR refers to a datetime field which is available with all the datetime data types: DATE, TIMESTAMP, TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE, and TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE. The value of HOUR ranges from 0-23. It can be extracted using the built in EXTRACT function.

Example Usage:

SELECT EXTRACT(HOUR FROM (SYSDATE - hire_date) DAY TO SECOND )
FROM EMPLOYEES
